If you want to keep some content hidden from the public eye, you are able to activate password protection for a particular folder - either the main Internet site folder or a different one below it. When this feature is active, a pop-up shall appear anytime anyone tries to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login information shall be necessary for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg in case you have protected the domain.com folder. If the details are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message will appear and there isn't any way of getting around this restriction, so you can rest assured that nobody will be able to access the secured content. The function may be beneficial in various scenarios - if only a few individuals should be able to see specific files, if you are developing a site and you do not want people to see it before it's completed, etc.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting

When you use any of our cloud hosting plans, you can make password-protected areas easily even if you have no experience with this type of matters. We've built in a very easy-to-use point-and-click tool into the Hepsia CP, offered with all accounts, so you will be able to secure any folder within just seconds. You will simply have to select a domain or a subdomain and the exact folder that should be secured (the main one or a subfolder), and then to type the username and password which will be used to access the folder in question at some point. Every secured folder shall have padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you will be able to see easily what content is secured and what's not. If necessary, you can create a number of sets of login credentials for precisely the same folder.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to shield any content that you have uploaded via our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it's a part of, so you'll not have to type in any code at any time. You'll only have to pick one of the domains/subdomains that you have inside the website hosting account and to choose which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can input the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be good to go. The protection shall be turned on at once, so anyone who attempts to access the recently protected folder shall have to enter the accurate login details. If several individuals must be able to open the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
