The definition of “hosting” does not describe a single service, but a variety of services which offer numerous functions to a domain name. Having a website and emails, for instance, are two independent services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most of the people see them as one single service. In reality, each domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, which specifies where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain name. For example, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record is mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will then be forwarded to the correct server. The idea behind working with separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you may have your site hosted by one provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

With a cloud hosting plan from us, you're going to be able to set up or modify the A and MX records of your domain addresses and subdomains effortlessly through our innovative Hepsia hosting Control Panel. Changing the default records requires 2 clicks and the setup of a new record requires just a couple of more clicks, so although you may have never dealt with such matters, you'll not encounter any problems. We have an extensive help section that will make things even easier. If you want to switch your e-mail provider and you have to set up a number of MX records in addition to the standard two, you may choose their priority i.e. which record will deal with your e-mails first when someone sends you a message. Normally the new provider will tell you what these values should be. With our shared plans, you'll have 100 % control of your domains and subdomains and you will be able to manage their A and MX records very easily and at any time.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our semi-dedicated servers, will allow you to see the A and MX records for each of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if needed, to update any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is very easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a few more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you complete control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
