There are various ways to redirect a domain address to an alternative domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain and you have set up a website using some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you will achieve with this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is essential to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and functioning e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and sometimes further configuration may be needed with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Creating a CNAME record using our cloud hosting is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in only a few simple steps. You will find a video tutorial in the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you a number of opportunities - if you create a company website on our end, for example, the staff can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a site using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain address, so all your visitors are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it will require no more than a few clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed using our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will find a section committed to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted in the account. To create a CNAME record, you'll only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter will be forwarded to and save the modification. The new record is going to be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is equally simple and takes a click.
