The dot SE country-code top-level domain name extension was launched in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were obtained. Persons could secure solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a necessity, i.e. only Swedish persons, commercial entities and organizations were able to purchase a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized a lot and, as a consequence, the number of .SE domains has been mounting each year.
